So now that I have this LiveMessage Alerts thing going, I had one of those lightbulb moments. My boss and I had bounced around the idea of providing an RSS feed for those more tech-savvy customers when content in their portals was updated.
I can see value to this, and it’s another cool thing to offer on the list at little extra effort, but I’m reluctant to put an RSS aggregator on a customer’s desktop and support it. However…this LiveMessage Alerts thing…that could be an option, especially for a customer that already has MSN messenger…just a quick notification that hey, there’s new content. Or, if they really wanted it, notifications to the mobile device.
Plus…it requires no extra work at all. If you’re already going to have an RSS feed up, might as well provide the LiveMessage functionality. Anyway, the large purpose of this post is to demonstrate the update functionality to some coworkers.
